Festival time in Chicago

Not a summer weekend goes by without Chicagoans celebrating at a festival. Some honor Chicago music traditions like jazz and blues, while others tempt rental bus visitors with culinary delights. Chicago neighborhood festivals come alive with entertainment, food and camaraderie. And the fun doesn't stop when the weather gets cold. Outdoor holiday festivals and indoor film festivals keep Chicagoans and rental bus visitors in a festive mood all year when they visit Chicago with a bus, coach bus, party bus, mini bus, passenger coach or school bus rented from Bus Rental Chicago.

Long known to Chicago rental bus visitors for its jazz, Chicago showcases local talent along with musicians from all over the world at the Chicago Jazz Festival. The festival includes all types of jazz, from bebop and ragtime to New Orleans, Chicago and newer styles. The festival is free and takes place in Millennium Park on Labor Day weekend. Another signature event is the Chicago Blues Festival. Largest of the festivals, the free event features three days of concerts on five stages in June. Held in Grant Park on Chicago’s lakefront, some of America’s greatest blues performers share the stage. Also in June, some of the country’s foremost gospel musicians and singers perform at the Chicago Gospel Music Festival, also held in Grant Park. For country music fans, a one-day musical event, the Chicago Country Music Festival, occurs annually in Grant Park in early July. The city also hosts a nine-day World Music Festival in September that highlights music from many world cultures.

Rental bus visitors should take note that the world’s largest food festival takes place in Grant Park every summer. More than 35 Chicago-area restaurants present an array of food choices at the Taste of Chicago. Selections include such favorites as Chicago pizza, but diners may also enjoy three-course meals created by some of Chicago’s best chefs. A cooking center demonstrates how chefs prepare the culinary delights. Well-known vocalists perform on several stages. The festival is free, but admission is charged for seating during performances. In February, the city celebrates Chicago Restaurant Week, a 10-day event featuring Chicago’s best restaurants.

For more than 60 years, artists have displayed their work at the Old Town Art Fair on Chicago’s near north side. The juried fair attracts artists from all over the country and includes many art types, from paintings and sculpture to photography, jewelry and glass. The outdoor festival also features a garden walk where area homeowners open their private gardens to rental bus visitors for viewing. The weekend fair is held in early June, and an admission donation is requested. Later in June, more than 350 artists display their work at the Gold Coast Art Fair. The free, outdoor weekend event is one of the oldest festivals in Chicago and is located along the lakefront in Grant Park. Pioneer Court, the site of Chicago’s first cabin, attracts art enthusiasts every July for the Chicago Tribune North Michigan Avenue Art Festival. The weekend event is free. Also free, and on Chicago’s south side near the University of Chicago, the 57th Street Art Fair gathers local artists in early June for an outdoor art show.
