Off Chicago’s beaten track

Chicago, the windy city, is a center for visitors, tourists and business travelers who come in by car, airplane, or rental bus. For most, especially those in groups, traveling by a coach bus, party bus, mini bus, passenger coach or school bus rented from Bus Rental Chicago is an easy and comfortable way of moving around Chicago. After you’re done with the usual skyscraper tours, shopping at the Magnificent Mile, visiting the usual museums and tasted the deep dish pizza, take a rental bus, and travel to a couple of places that most tourists, and even some Chicago citizens, hardly ever go to.
A rental bus visitor cannot help but be overwhelmed with emotion by the collection at the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum. This place is the only art museum dedicated to exhibiting works of art and other creations by veterans of the Vietnam War. The collection has recently expanded to include the contributions of Iraq War veterans as well, and there is a certain poignancy about viewing these works of men and women who have seen combat. Getting off your rental bus and walking into the main gallery, you are greeted by a graceful recycled metal sculpture of a soldier about to go off to war. On the second floor, the sacrifices made by soldiers in the Vietnam War is driven home by a hanging display of over 58,000 dog tags, one for each of the men and women who gave their lives or went missing in that conflict. Exhibits are continuously rotated, as art is a form of therapy for war veterans. The museum is a non-profit, and donations are gratefully received in order to assist war veterans in exhibiting their works of art.
Take your rental bus over to the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. While the main building houses a most impressive series of exhibits on the wonders of nature, not many realize that the external structure of the building is a museum in itself. The green technology incorporated into the building is visible in the large prairie rooftop gardens, with solar panels and water conservation systems. But the hidden gem is the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven. Here, rental bus visitors will be shown a video about butterflies, and then enter a huge room with a window wall, a vine strung trellis, a rocky waterfall, a twisting path with benches. And about 1000 butterflies. Walking about the haven, which is open year round, visitors will realize how well butterflies can camouflage themselves. The museum rotates the species of butterflies regularly, with about 80 different species in the haven at any one time. Another hallway brings you to a display where you can watch butterflies emerge from chrysalids. As you exit, there is a mirror where you can check to see if you’re not about to inadvertently take a butterfly back on-board the rental bus with you.
